I think winter is over

Hello Everyone,

I know it has been awhile since I updated. I feel like in the winter we just try to get by, to survive until the sun comes out again. But winter is over and life has started to get interesting again. In December I graduated from my Physical Therapist Assistant program. In January I passed my licensing exam and got a job doing inpatient physical therapy at Intermountain Medical Center. I work 7 days on and then get 7 days off. I was trying to work at Marriott and the spa during my off days, but a few weeks ago I quit my Marriott job. I know we will all miss the Marriott discounts! But it is nice to have time to clean our house and go mountain biking. Jeremy has also been doing more biking. He bought a motorcycle last month. So besides biking and working we spend our time with Bodie. He will be three next month, but he still acts like a puppy.

Sniff... I think summer is over

Well this Monday is Labor day so I guess summer really came and went. It was a busy few months with school, work and trying to have fun too.Some of the things we did included: Gary and JoAnn (Jer's parents) came to visit and so did Marby and Emma ( my mom and sister); we worked on the house (owning a house means always having something to work on); our good friends Thad and Megan got married; Jeremy and I also had our six year anniversary. Whew! Lots of stuff going on.

Now I have started my clinical internship for Physical Therapy Assisting at St Mark's Hospital. So far it is great! The days are long at St Marks, I am also working for Marriott and the Spa at the Grand America Hotel, so free time is rare. I am looking forward to December when I graduate. Jeremy is working, playing video games, working on the house and trying to do more fishing. This weekend we are going to try to camp in the Uinta Mountains. So I know this is boring and I should update more often so I can avoid just writing summaries, but until December...

Hi! Happy summer. Jeremy, Bo and I love summer. Fishing, camping and being outside are some of our favorite parts. This weekend we went to Strawberry Reservoir with our friends June, Jeremy, Colby and Jessica. Although the fish were being difficult the two Jeremy's both caught a few. We had to let the the cut-throats go, but the rainbow trout we cooked. The mountains were beautiful. Check out the pics below.

I know I have neglected posting lately. I will blame being busy with school, but honestly I would just rather spend my free time walking at the park or baking cookies then on the computer. However now that I finished finals, I have a little break to go to the park, bake cookies and blog. It is beautiful here in SLC right now. The trees and flowers have blossomed and the grass seems so green. I love spring weather too, the rain is cozy, the snow on the flowers pretty and the mild temperatures are perfect for playing outside. Jeremy and I are getting ready to pick out tile for our kitchen. We are excited not to have loose dusty tiles soon. We started pulling them up this past fall but realized it was too big a project... so we delayed it until spring. Waiting didn't change the size of the project :) Besides school, work and little projects around the house we mostly spent the winter in front of our fireplace. Now that it is warming up I am looking forward to tennis, golf, Mt biking, hikes and all those fun things. Can't wait!

So I have been neglecting blogging lately because life has been getting in the way. Actually it is school and keeping my house clean that are getting in the way. I love school though and despite the hard work, am excited to be a physical therapist assistant soon. I start clinicals in May so I feel every day before then I need to learn as much as possible. My brain is packed full! Anyway I was lucky to have almost 4 weeks off for Christmas break. It was so nice to go home and see so much family and spend time with good friends. I am lucky to have many wonderful people in my life.

I love fall. The cool sunny weather and the colorful leaves were all the excuse I needed to take Bo and Violet on a hike in Mill Creek Canyon. The hike was exactly what I needed to relax and to re-energize. Being in school and working means I am inside more then I would like. It was so nice to get out doors! Even though we have lived in Utah for over 5 years now, we still consider PA home. Maybe it is because that is where most of our family lives. I love Utah and all that is has to offer, but being home makes me remember everything I love about it: our families, old friends, fireflies, cheesesteaks, tasty cakes, real pizza, professional sports teams, Rita's water ice, trees everywhere, winding roads, lots of birds and wildlife, curly hair and soft skin from the humidity, the shore, big cities and big rivers. Well there is more, but I don't want to be too boring. Anyway though, it was great being home and we already miss it. Check out the pictures from our trip.

San Rafael Swell and maybe our new house

Hi family and friends. Jeremy and I have really been enjoying the outdoors lately. After almost 4 weeks of rain we have been trying to get out as often as possible. We were starting to forget we live in a desert. The reservoirs are full and the mountains are a lush green--for now. We have been mountain biking, hiking, camping, playing tennis and fishing. I love all the recreation and the beautiful scenery Utah has to offer. It really is a big reason why we live here. It is so nice to be able to go biking for a few hours after work or to take Bodie hiking in the dog friendly Millcreek canyon. He can run and play off leash there. Recently Jer and I went camping with Megan, Thad and Lisa in the San Rafael Swell. I honestly had no idea it existed. I felt we were in an old west movie. There were free roaming cows, sage brush and cool sandstone formations. The highlight for me was the little Grand Canyon. Lars, if you are reading this, it really was like the Grand Canyon :)

Jeremy and I are also trying to buy a house. We found one we like and are now in the process of making it ours. It is really cute and in a great location. Hopefully everything will work out. We will keep you updated.

Laura and I went on a road trip to Phoenix and Las Vegas last week. We stayed at the Marriott's Canyon Villas and spent time at the JW Desert Ridge. It was hot, sunny and we had a great time hanging out by the pool, shopping, eating and enjoying being on vacation.

I guess you could say I hibernated all winter. During which time I didn't update this blog. I blame nature. But now it is spring and somehow I feel motivated to catch you all up. We had lots of fluffy, white, cold, slippery snow this winter. It was beautiful. I was able to have several epic days snowboarding. My new favorite mountain is Powder Mt. It is near Eden, Ut. I worked 2 nights a week at the Rustler Lodge in Alta doing massage. I also worked my normal job at Marriott. No school this past semester though so that was a nice break. I am officially in the Physical Therapy Assistant program though and start classes this fall. Jeremy and Bo are both doing great too. Although Bo knows how to drive Jer crazy, constantly bringing him toys to play with (slobbery, smelly, slimy toys). We try to hide them but he somehow always seems to have plenty more. Ok I know boring. Now to the fun pictures. Again I was hibernating so I couldn't take that many, but hopefully enough so you can all see we are happy and doing well :)

Utah is the perfect place to live if you enjoy the outdoors. It offers such amazing landscapes. One great example is Zion's National Park. It is about 5 hours south of SLC. Jeremy, Thad and I were able to spend a weekend checking out hidden canyons, sheer cliffs and star filled nights. (sorry if it is cheesy, but its true!) Check out the pictures.

Grandma's Birthday

Grandma turned 85 this year. To celebrate all of her children and most of her grandchildren gathered in Idaho to surprise her. Grandma Gigger is one of the sweetest people on this earth. She is gentle and soft spoken. She always lets you know she loves you no matter what. Even though she doesn't like to cook she always makes us the most delicious food. Even though she hates writing letters we all get birthday cards each year. Grandma is constantly helping others. I used to joke that her second job was a taxi driver since she transports all of her grandkids around. Grandma has a fun side. She goes to the highschool football games and cheers for BYU. She loves fire engine red and driving in fast cars. She loves Krispy Creme donuts. She is a master card player at "hand and foot." If you can't tell, I love my grandma. She is an amazing woman. I look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with her.

Aruba

Jeremy and I went to Aruba for a week this month. We were met there by our good friends Scott and Caroline Douglas. We stayed at the Marriott Surf Club in a 2 bedroom villa. Since I work for Marriott we were able to get a great deal. Aruba is a beautiful, desert island just 15 miles north of Venezuela. The water was warm and clear, the beaches white and the sun was always shining. I loved it. We were able to do so many fun things. We snorkeled, sailed, fished, explored the island by jeep and relaxed a little bit too. Check out the pictures and don't be too jealous :)

Grandfather

One of my favorite people was my grandfather. He was a kind and thoughtful person. He was quiet, but loved laughter. He would delite everyone he met with his clever sense of humor. He loved giving and receiving hugs. He was an artist in many ways. He could draw and design. He played several instraments. I remember best him playing the guitar. He wrote music and lyrics, he created tender songs for my grandma and fun songs for his kids. He had a great singing voice and loved to harmonized. Grandpa liked to say, "love, love or I'll bat ya one," whenever someone was fighting. Grandpa didn't like swimming, broccolli or any green vegetable. He loved grandma, all his family, his friends and the church. He had a hug quota to fill everyday. He always made you feel important and cared about. If you were ever upset he would put his arm around you or hold your hand. His soft hand was comforting. Grandfather loved the color teal and entenmann's raspberry danish. Grandfather was a carpenter too, he built tables, shelves, an addition to his house and cabinents too. Grandfather was in the Army during World War 2. He was talented and a good person. I will most remember his kind eyes and gentle smile. I will remember his hugs and how he would tease me every birthday that next year, I would finally be too old for him to call me "Tiffy Poo." He was always proud that he was the first one to hold me after I was born. I was always proud to call him my grandfather.

We finally were able to go camping this summer. Since the first warm day of spring I have been wanting to go. I am very happy we were able to get into the mountains and enjoy the awesome nature Utah has to offer. We went to Millcreek canyon which is only a few miles from us. Millcreek allows dogs and unrestricted camping as long as you are a half mile from the road, river or trail. We loved the idea that you didn't have to stay at a camp ground surrounded by other people. We went up the canyon with our gear on our backs and picked a trail. Our plan was to stop when we found a flat nice spot. The trail we picked was Alexander's Basin. It was beautiful but steep. Jeremy was carrying probably 70 lbs on his back. We got maybe a mile before our requirements for a camping spot decreased to one, find a flat spot. Finally we reached a level area. We pushed our way through the brush a dozen yards and called it good. Once we set the packs down we started to have fun. We found rocks and made a fire pit. Bodie helped dig out the pit. We set up the tents and made a nice fire. We ate S'mores for an appetizer and foil packs for dinner. Yum! I love camp food. It was such a nice night too, lots of stars and not too cold. I hope we go camping again.

A Crazy Week

I believe in luck. Both bad and good. How else would you explain why some people have easy lives and others have rutted and bumpy roads to struggle along. Last week was stressful and "bumpy" for me. My intention isn't to complain, but it was such a fascinating chain of events I had to record my experiences.

Sunday night I jumped off our friend Thad's balcony wall and landed on a thorn. I tried to pull it out but it just kept breaking off. Thad, armed with a needle and tweezers tried to get more out, but had the same luck. The next morning I couldn't walk so I went to the doctors. The PA saw the thorn, but because it was so deep couldn't get it out just with tweezers. She decided to cut my foot open with a scalpel. Before she would do that though she had to insert an inch long needle with lidacain into my foot to numb it up. That process hurt more then the thorn! The end of the story is she was able to pull the 1/4 inch long, thorn out. Yeah!

Wednesday afternoon I was at Sugarhouse park with Bodie. We were playing on a blanket by the water when movement across the stream caught my eye. A business man was being approached by this shady looking guy. The shady guy got up in the mans face and was acting really aggressive. I wasn't sure what was going on. I kept watching and the shady guy pulled out a shiny silver revolver and stuck it in the man's side. When I saw that a million thoughts raced through my head. Is this real? Should I run? Should I take a picture, or call a police? I heard the business man ask the guy, "Do you want money? Come back this way and I will give you money." The business man was facing me and the robber's back was towards me. I know he was trying to get the robber farther away from me (how nice). So the business man and robber went back into the trees. I picked up Bodie and my phone and was about to call the police and run away when I saw the robber coming back towards me. I didn't want to appear threatening so I sat back down on and pushed my phone and wallet under the blanket. The robber walked towards me and crossed the stream. He was only 3 feet away from me and he looked me over. His hand was in his pocket (with the gun). But he never pulled it out. He actually met my eyes and said "hey" like nothing had happened. He passed by, jumped into his truck and sped off. I was relieved. The business man came over and we talked about how society is quickly going downhill. Oh and I called the police.

So only one last adventure for this week... don't worry its almost over and this one has pictures!

Thursday I went walking at lunch around my apartment complex. They are removing the siding and replacing it with stucco so the complex is a mess. We were walking as far away as possible from the construction while still not running into the parked cars. As we walked past a building there was a loud bang. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a gray blob catapulting towards me. Next thing I know Bodie and I are being stung by pieces of stucco mud. The big blob hit my arm and stucco pieces embedded into my skin. My shirt and jeans were covered in stucco and Bodie looked more like a dalmatian then a retriever. I was so mad. I yelled at the workers, who didn't speak english so they probably couldn't even understand me. Then stomped off to find the foreman. I haven't been that mad in a long time. Part of it was shock and adrenaline, but most of it was because the workers were laughing. You will probably laugh too when you see the pictures, but at the time it was NOT funny to me. Well the foreman was nice and calming. He told me he would buy me some new clothes and a massage if I needed one. We went over together to the workers to try to figure out what happened. He was told that the hose to the stucco machine had clogged and the pressure had built up. The pressure exploded the hose just as I was walking by and the clog was what hit my arm. I just was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I did buy myself some new pants and a new shirt. The stucco never came out of the clothes. Luckily most of it has worked its way out of my skin.

So there it is, my crazy week. I will keep my horse shoe and clover leaf close by and hope this week is better.

The Puppy!

Most of you know that we have been wanting a dog for years. Since March we have been trying to adopt a puppy. We wanted to rescue a puppy because there are so many dogs in the shelters and pounds. After a few months of trying to adopt and not having much luck with the shelters we tried the classifieds. We found an ad for a Yellow Lab/Pointer mix who was pregnant and the owners were trying to find homes for her future puppies. The dog was beautiful, with lab characteristics but smaller. We called and put our name on the list, but kept checking for other options because 6 weeks seemed like eternity to wait. Well, the weeks flew by and we didn't find any other puppy. We went to seem them at 5 weeks old. They were all very cute. The father must have been a black lab/golden retriever mix because some of the puppies had long hair and some were black. We tried to choose which one we wanted, and finally decided on a little female with short golden hair. This weekend we went to pick her up. When we got there we held the little girl and she wriggled, whined and squirmed. We played with a few of the other puppies and fell in love with her brother. He has longer hair, but is more mellow and easy going. So we brought him home. Poor guy had to drink from a pink water bowl, but I don't think he noticed. We are still trying to pick out a name for him, since Mia won't work anymore. Jeremy likes Bo, but it sounds a lot like "no." I am thinking Bodey or Boden would be better. Still not completely sold though.

Kent's Homecoming in Pennsylvania

Thanks to mom, I was able to go to Pennsylvania to visit my family at the end of June. We gathered for Kent's return from serving a mission in Brazil. For the past 2 years we could only communicate through email and a Christmas phone call. It was great to see my wonderful brother again. Besides being skinny--which a few weeks of Philly food (cheese steaks, tasty cakes and Entemanns) should fix, he seems like the same old boy we sent away. OK he is slightly more mature too.

While I was there the Buell's (mom's brothers Kent w/Carol and Hannah, Eben w/ Connie and Jaquelyn, and Todd) came over to see Kent. I enjoy our crazy, fun family. While they were there we celebrated grandpa's 85th birthday. My grandfather is an important part of my life. He is quiet, but has a sharp sense of humor. He is an artist and has talents in many areas. He draws, builds, sings, acts, plays the guitar and writes songs. I most appreciate his unconditional love and kindness.

While I was home I was also able to visit the Schoenbergers. Since they live just slightly over an hour away I spent the night in Lehighton, PA. They were busy working on their home, but they took time to visit with me. Gary and I even were able to go on a bike ride along the Lehigh river and the Canal locks. They live is such a beautiful part of the country.

There were a few things I had to do while I was in Pennsylvania, eat the before mentioned food, ride a real rollar coaster and go to the shore. So I went to Wawa, Six flags, Joey's Pizza and Atlantic City. I think I was quite productive.

So below are pictures of the trip. There are scenery pictures, but I think PA is beautiful. I miss "home" already. It was great seeing everyone and I can't wait to visit again soon.

Jeremy's Newest Adventures

After several months of deliberation Jeremy bought an AR-15. It is an intimidating weapon, but has definite advantages over a shotgun or pistol. The aim is more accurate and the recoil is minimal. The rounds are expensive (30 cents each), however if there is ever not a war they should become more reasonably priced. We went shooting on public land across Utah Lake. Check out the pictures.

Jeremy also decided to shave his head. During the process we caught a glimpse of what he will look like in 20 years. He started by shaving the top off only and left the sides long. It reminded me of Mr. Burns from the Simpsons. Unfortunately no picture of that, be grateful.

Its June

It amazes me how quickly time goes by. Today I talked to a few people about events in there lives that I thought just happened. Turns out it has been several weeks. Was I in a coma? Or perhaps a hazy cloud for the past month? It kind of feels like it. I remember Dad and Laura's birthday, Mother's day, then the days seem to blur together. I am going to try to be more present in the passing of my time. I want to be aware of and appreciate my life.

Randii, my best friend, is back for the summer. I am very happy. Jeremy, Laura and I went down to Provo for her birthday on the 6th.

Lake Tahoe

I finished the school semester just in time to get away to Lake Tahoe. I work for Marriott Vacation Club and part of my job is to check out the Marriott timeshare properties. It was a nice break and Lake Tahoe is a beautiful area. My co workers were fun to spend time with too. We also went to San Francisco for a day. Ashley and her boyfriend Matt met us at the Giant's game. SF is one of my favorite cities. I wish we could move there for a few years. Maybe someday. Anyway though, enjoy the pictures.

February 5th

I turned 25 on February 5th. This birthday made me feel significantly older. Maybe because I can no longer say I am in my early 20's. I am closer to 30 then I am to 20. Or maybe it is because when I was a kid I imagined 25 year olds were all working in steady jobs, having kids and buying houses...things synonymous with adulthood. While I am working for all of the above I still feel a twinge of rebellion, I don't want to grow up and settle down. So along with working towards "grown-up" things I will also be trying to play hard and to enjoy our childless, houseless...lets admit it, pretty care free life. I have always heard that San Francisco is one of the best cities to visit. I finally was able to check it out for myself. The city was beautiful. Even better I was able to see my good friend from high school Ashley Hirt and spend time with my cousin Katie and her husband Jeremy. I had a lot of fun and hopefully I can visit again soon. Halloween was great this year. Jeremy painted my face, I hope its not how he really views me. We went to my Uncle Randy's and Leslie's house for the best homemade soup ever! The "best snow on earth" is here already. All week it was cold and rainy with snow in the Mountains. We valley dwellers thought we were safe from the snow since winter is still a few months away. However we were wrong. Saturday I left the house to meet my friend Ashley Lake at a nearby mall, I had to run back inside for gloves and a hat it was so cold. The rain started to freeze and we had sleet and snow in September. Brrr!

Today it is warmer and the snow has retreated back to the mountains for now. It is beautiful on the mountains. Too bad it couldn't just stay there, and be 70 degrees in the valley all winter.

I have been thinking that it would be nice to have a blog so our friends and family can be more involved with our life. As many times as I recommit to write or call and try better to keep in touch, I sadly fail to follow through. I will try again, using this blog, cross your fingers that it works!

Jeremy and I are living on the East Bench of Salt Lake City, Utah. It is a beautiful location. Our apartment is close to the Bonneville Shoreline trail and the mouth of Parley's Canyon. We can look out west and see the Great Salt Lake and downtown. Jer only has a five minute drive to work and he loves that since before he was driving from Provo, about an hour away. Jer is working for Myriad Genetics, one of the big projects he works on is running a test that can help patients screen for breast cancer. I work for Marriott, more specifically Marriott Vacation Club. I am a travel adviser for timeshare owners. So basically I get to plan vacations all day. If you need help finding a hotel let me know! I also do Massage Therapy for friends and family and am working to get my personal training certification sometime this year.

When we are not working we like to spend time at the gym, go out to eat, watch movies, golf, play tennis, play Halo-Jer, and spend time with our friends and family. Jer is very excited for Halo 3 to come out. He is buying his XBox 360 this week. I am still trying to decide what my consolation gift will be, since I won't have a husband the next few weeks thanks to the XBox. So that is a short over view of what we do most days. I'll write more soon!
